TBI/TPI 350's

Is a TPI Chip the same as a TBI chip? I have a 1988 camaro that had a 305 tbi, and now has a 350tbi, but has the stock 305 chip. However, camaros never came with a 350tbi, so what do i do?

And if anyone has a 350tbi and has a chip that they really like, let me know.. i will buy one for mine..

The TPI & TBI chips are not interchangeable.

IIRC the '88 TBI ECM is a 1228063, and f-body 1 year only ECM. Best bet is to find a '89-'91 (or there abouts, I am not sure of the exact years) Caprice with an L05. Get the ECM (1228746) and plug it in. It is pin for pin compatible with the '8063.

RBob.

well that number matches.. heres a picture of the label..

I have a 350 TBI, with the 305 TBI chip. Is there anyway i can get a 350tbi chip that will fit into a 1988 camaro '8063 ecm?

I have a 1983 camaro berlinetta 305 4bbl carb Ecm.. can that be of any use?

RBobs response is your choice. I don't know of anyone who has reversed the 8063s code, meaning you are out of luck for a 350 version of the chip. Why even bother when you can get the whole ECM from a 350 caprice for $30.00 at a junkyard.

You could also use a truck/van/suburbuan/SUV ECM, but they typically are tuned worse from the factory than the car stuff. Timing is too late, too much fuel under light loads, weird TCC operation, etc. In short calibrated for 4,500+ lbs.
