do i NEED memcal to eliminate cold start injector
hey guys, im putting the chevy 400 in my car, it has 202 heads and i dont have a cam yet, i asked tbichips.com-brian about a chip and he said first i would need a memcal to eliminate the cold start injector, do i need this memcal? please help

Yes. You need a memcal from a MAF car. The 1989 memcal will work perfectly (provided it's for the same engine and transmission).
However, you can take a memcal from a 1987 or 1988 car and reprogram it with the 1989 programming and that should work for you. It may be a little tough to start if you go into limp-mode, but when if that happens, the engine is usually tough to start anyway.

Oops, didn't notice that you plan to run a SBC 400. So you will most likely need a new eprom regardless and you may have some problems starting in limp-mode as well. So it really doesn't matter then.
Just reprogram your current 1987 memcal with a modified 1989 bin (programming). The "ARAP" bin is quite popular. A buddy of mine is using the ARAP as a "base" (plus more modifying of the bin) for his 383 solid roller Miniram setup.
