No primary igntion
No primary igntion
My 1992 Z28 won't start. I'm not getting any spark. I then checked voltage at the primary side of the coil and get nothing. The car has a DFI in it and the DFI is getting power. I can hear the relay click on the dfi harness for the fuel pump, and I also get voltage at the pink power wire for the dfi. Where does the primary ignition signal come from? Shouldn't it go through the computer to the igntion module, to the coil? Which terminals on the igntion module can I test for voltage to narrow it down more?

The heavy pink wire going to the ignition coil is the +12 volt ignition feed. Between the ignition coil and the ignition module is the two wire connector, with white and pink wires. Pink being the +12 volts to the module. And the white being the ground signal to the coil (for dwell then spark).

So I need to hook a switched ignition 12v wire up directly to the + on the coil as well? I could have sworn I only pulled off 1 wire from the + on the coil when I took the original wiring out, and 2 from the -. 1 was to go to the ignition module, the other for the tach.
If I'm understanding right what you are saying I would have 2 wires going to the C+ and 2 going to the C-. The trigger wire for the dfi is just to turn the computer on and off, not to provide any type of ignition source?

The two connectors on the coil are for:
conn1:
+12 V ignition power (pink)
tach lead for dash tach (white)
conn2:
+12 v feed to module (pink)
switched ground from module (white)
The tach lead is usually short with a spade connector on the end. It is paired with the heavy pink wire which is connected to the ignition switch.
The two connectors have the white connected to white, and the pink connected to pink internally. They pass through from one connector to the other.
The wires between the coil and the module has just the 2 wires and a connector on each end.
See the attached picture. This is how the stock ignition is wired to a stock vehicle. The left hand wire that has 'TO IGN' is the heavy pink wire.
