Code 14 help
Hello,
I just bough this car, its an 88 iroc convertible, 5.0, 5 speed. It runs very rich and I had a code 34 (MAF) which I replaced and I had a code 14, Coolant temp sensor, which i also replaced but still have that code. I checked to see if I had powere on the two wires that go to the sensor with a test light. Should I or should I not have power here? Ive read some places that there is varying voltage depending on engine temp but should i have any power there in the key acc position? Ive also read that this would make the car run rich becasue it thinks its cold and dumps too much fuel in, any ideas? anyone?
thanks

Re: Code 14 help
The codes are stored in the ECM and won't go away until either the ECM power has been cycled off, or there have been 50 start-ups without an error.
For the CTS, with the connector disconnected from the CTS, turn on the ignition (engine off), and measure the voltage from each terminal to ground (engine block).
The yellow wire should have 5 volts on it.
The black wire should have 0 volts on it (it goes to the engine block as the sensor ground).

Re: Code 14 help
The easiest method to clear the codes is to disconnect the battery for a few seconds (5 - 10). This also clears the radio settings, but they can be reset. I had to bring that up as I hear about it from my SO all of the time.

To anyone with this code...check the plug on the sensor. the garage I brought it to crimped the connections and the light went off. it appeared to have a good tight connection so i didnt think of it. i know that a lot of autoparts stores will sell the plug with the sensor, buy it.
