Which temp sensor for gauge and TPI

New to the board, hope I'm getting this in the right place.
Just bought a street rod with a '88 TPI.
Dash temp gauge is a VDO. It reads very fast responses but has a tendency to go above 250 degrees. I can see thermostat action.
There is no wire connected to the sensor on the left head between 1 & 3.
There is a green wire on the sensor on the front of the right head.
From what I've been able to find on the boards, sounds like the gauge should be connected to the left head sensor and the TPI should be on the front of the right head.
Any thoughts? And thanks in advance.

Re: Which temp sensor for gauge and TPI

The Coolant Temp Sensor(CTS)is located in the intake manifold. It has a 2 wire connector(I don't recall the colors right off). The Temp Sending unit is located in the driver's side head between, and just below, spark plugs # 1 and # 3.The wire color is solid green. Also in the passenger side head the temp sensor for the electric fan(with dual fans)is located between, and just below, spark plugs #6 and # 8.

Re: Which temp sensor for gauge and TPI

Thanks for the info. Since my post I've found that the temp sending unit is not the correct one for the VDO gauge. I was measuring 460 to about 650 ohms when warm which is about 150+ degrees. The range on the VDO sending unit is supposed to be 10 to 160 ohms. Sure enough, the gauge line was connected to the CTS....

I'll replace the sensor and try to see where the real CTS leads are. I guess with those disconnected it's been running in open loop mode.
