what should i buy for ecm diagnostics?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...id=p2759.l1259
should i buy this connector style 1 for my 1986 tpi 5.0 trans am?
if not can i get it cheaper elsewhere? and what software should i get?
and does any of this software/connectors work with a mac laptop or do i need a pc?
i only want to have the ability to see what my cars computer is seeing.
i dont want to take it to a dealership or some garage and pay 60 an hour.
i just want to see how my daily driver is doing and be able to plug in at anytime to see if im running normal or see a potential problem.
any advice guys? cheap is the key. just a connector to my aldl and software to read the information for my daily driver/performance street car
please reply i just a straight answer i've looked at search posts but not sure what is best for my paticular car
thanks

How do the AKM cables compare the cables sold here?
http://aldlcable.com/
Moates has this package that looks good as well.

yea i started finding cheaper ones like that one thanks,
what about software???? thats the next big thing
i see soem software packages but some say they are for specific ecm numbers and i dont want to get stck with a software that is wrong
just a universal software for my 1986 tpi 5.0 would be nice

I have the moates package which is awesome, combined with TunerPro(free) which works with any aldl gm ecm that you have a definition file for.

The cable as listed above: http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...roducts_id=127
TunerPro: http://www.tunerpro.net
Regular TunerPro will log just fine, for this you don't need TunerPro RT.
That + a cheap laptop and you'll be well on your way to datalogging.
Edit: on a side note, TunerPro is a windows application, I am unaware of any Mac software for ALDL datalogging at this time.

You might want to give WinALDL a try, at least to start with. It's simple to use, although it only reads at 160 baud. Still, it's free and easy to get up and running with.
