A few questions on the megasquirt
So im thinking of buying one, but i have a few questions (damn there is alot of reading involved)
So the Ms II has spark control, or so i read, can i use this feature with msd6 btm and a stock distributer/coil setup ?
The MS wiring harness has me slightly confused, so it plugs into the unit and i have to add the appropriate GM plugs for the sensors? or do i splice near the factory ecu? or am i cutting those wires to the ecu and splicing with the wires that go to the MS ?
The Stimulator i understand helps you check your wiring job, and helps you get to know the MS, it connects directly to the MS or do i need a cable ?
Thx guys, back to reading

Re: A few questions on the megasquirt
The stim plugs directly in, no cable needed.
The MS-II does control timing without hardware mods. Here are the instructions for the MSD box.

As for the wiring, you can do it either way. If you want to replace the ECM, get a short megasquirt harness and cut and splice it into the appropriate connectors under the passanger side dash.
If you want to redo the harness for the sake of having a neat engine bay, go ahead.
It's all up to you.

Re: A few questions on the megasquirt
Id like to run both, or mostly just leave the factory ECU to do whatever it does minus running the engine, so in theory i could go to a junk yard get all the connectors and wire them up to the MS cable and plug them into the factory sensors?
Will this cause a problem with the factory ECU not being able to read those sensors, seeing as they will be unplugged ?
Thanks a bunch

"Whatever it does minus running the engine"
What exactly would this be?
There is a megamanual page on sharing sensors, special care needs to taken on some sensors (clt, iat, etc) that rely on resistance.

The buffer is internal to the 91's?
I thought it was the yellow box on the back of the ECM.

That is interesting. I've never owned a '7730 ECM. That is good to know.
Would it be possible for him to use a buffer from an earlier car?
The megasquirt is set up to use the 16022621 ESC module from the older cars, so he could use that to condition the knock signal.
