Need help, trying to understand timing on DFI

Have a question with the Accel DFI Gen 7 ignition system and the timing of the motor. Let me state that I bought this car with this system in it, already tuned up, so I'm learning as i go with this car. Now I recently blew my head gasket on the motor and need to replace it. I'm use to doing work on stock TPI motors where you unhook the E.S.T. and get the base timing and go from there. What i was wanting to know is if there are any wires that i need to unhook to get the base timing on this motor, or do i re-time it back to where it is now. All inputs will be appreciated

Do you know what kind of ditributor is in it? I know there are BS3 systems that use the stock TPI and the EST wire and I'd assume Accel would offer the same. With mine I just made a wide area in the table of the same degree of timing, and used my adjustable timing light to make sure it was what I set it at. If it's off either turn the distributor or change the crank reference angle in the program to correct it.

What you do is set the timing to "Fixed" and "X" number of degrees. For instance, fixed and 20 degrees is how I usually set mine, then with the distributor loose, you turn it until your timing mark also indicates 20 degrees. Then you know they are in sync. Is that what you were looking for?

so do you have to use the software to place the timing back to where it is set right now? Cause if thats the case then i might be screwed cause i have windows vista on my computer/labtop, and the program wont take. The motor is using the factory distributor off of a TPI motor.

Yes, you need to use the software to make those sorts of adjustments.
