on the fence
i can get my hands on an older fast box for my third gen for a decent price i just need the wiring harness. For less than half the price i can get an emulator and some software from moats. I have a an 89 stroked Ta 10:1 comp afr heads zz9x cam, mini ram, hooker long tubes mufflex exhaust 6 speed and i plan to shoot a 200 nx shot wet. I've been struggling with some crappy tunes tpis flashed for me numerous times. So it's time i do it right.
My question to you is will prom flashing give me the versatility i need or am i going to be disappointed and wish i bought the fast?

Re: on the fence
Sorry I can't help with your question. I'm in the same boat as you though. I've been running a so-so prom that Exotic Muscle (are they even still in buisiness!) did for me years ago and want to take the next step but am having a hard time figuring out the best choice. I'm looking at adding a shot of wet NO, but before I do I wan't to make sure my tune is good and that I have the ability to see if I'm heading towards problems.
The big dollar stuff seems capable and easy to use (accel, Fast, etc) but is, well, big dollars!
The prom burning stuff from moates seems capable also but not as flexible (maybe I'm wrong on this, I just don't know).
The EBL sounded great until I figured out is was for TBI cars. Sounds like shortly you"ll be able to re-pin your harness and then plug and play on our cars but not yet. Also lose the MAF, which may not be huge, but I like my MAF! Does VATS and the torque converter still work? I really like the idea of the additional inputs for logging other sensors and the ability to switch programs on the fly. I'd like to start playing with E85 and this world make it much easier. I've been reading but haven't found a lot of info on what works and doesn't on a TPI car when using the EBL.
The megasquirt is flexible but you lose lock-up torque converter, and the MAF (unless you go with a ford MAF and jump through some hoops). also, I'm sure they exist but I haven't been able to find any TPI cars running the MS with daily driver reliability.
The ECM info in the sticky is good but seems dated and doesn't really address what the strengths and weaknesses are for each system as they apply to third gens. This isn't meant as a bash, just stating that it can be hard to decipher which of the options give what benefits and have what limitations.
Maybe with two long time members asking some tunning Ninja will take pitty and post a quick and dirty "what system does what" for us.
Untill then I will keep digging through post and filling my note book with the nuggets I run across for each system until I have enough info to post a thread about it. Unfortunatly, at my pace, gasoline will be banned and we'll all be driving hydrogen cars when I've finished!

Re: on the fence
i've been doing some reading on the megasquirt apparently there is a new board coming out that will controll lock up. My maf is bad so after replacing that i'm going to try the ostrich emulator with tuner rt I don't have the time needed to work with ms or a fast at this point. My car runs but needs some minor tuning. I just want to drive it this year it's been off the road since fall of 03 and i sold the bike so i need something fun

To use an EBL in place of the '165 a few pins need to be moved in the ECM harness connector. Then a MAP sensor is wired in. Can use the former MAF wires to do this. We supply the wiring change information so you don't have to figure it out.
The optional Port Mod is highly recommended. This addition to the ECM changes the injector firing rate to the proper MPFI once per revolution.
VATs is available (can be turned on/off in the calibration), and the TCC has the full GM style of support. Meaning that lock/unlock vs. TPS and MPH is fully programmable.
There are other features and enhancements that have been made. Which is what puts the EBL world's above other products.
