Alright this is the problem.... my buddy has an 86 trans am that has ben converted from the 5.0 tpi to a 5.7 tpi. the 5.7 isnt a stock camaro 5.7. the new one has got a RV cam, and 202 heads. we put the stock tpi setup from the 305 on the 350 with the exeption of 24ib injectors. now the car idles like crap, sometimes stalls and doesnt have the power it did when we first did the swap. we have ruled out anything mechanical including vaccum leaks. when it started throwing codes it was throwing a MAF code and an optispark code(thats what the autozone book said). now its throwing those and a o2 code. we bumped the idle up a tad and it doesnt stall anymore but still idles like crap. also sometimes the code shuts off and it runs fine. when its thrown it will idle bad and while cruising little to no throttle it will learch(for lack of a better term) between idle and id say 1500 rpm.. i did some reasearch on the optispark code and i guess it means its either the ECM or EST. i think its the ecm, cus when i kick the kick pannel under the ECM while going down the road the speedo quits lol, and when i kick it again it will come back. but i dont know much about ECM's so thats why im here. Oh and we did replace the MAF and it did nothing.

 

let me simplify this..

while runnign bad, when he accelerates its fine.. once he lets off it runs really bad, surging from around idle to around 1500 RPM. he says when he drives it hard it doesnt throw codes. but when he babys it, it will throw codes. He also smells raw fuel sometimes. the codes is has thrown are.. code 42, EGR, MAF, and o2. its got a new MAF, and new o2. and still throws those codes. any ideas?
