Need memcal interchange
Hi everyone, this the first time I'm using this. It's really cool! Anyway, I'm planning on using a TPI off a 85 or so Camaro for my 48 Chevy street rod. I have a 4bolt 350 out of a Chevy truck (actually camper), stock. Every week end we go to the local U pullit yard and try to get all the parts we need for this setup to work. I just got a ECM out of a 92 Camaro (7730), only it was a six cylinder (all I can find). I know how to cut out the chip and I have a programmer to make a new one, but do I understand that the other part of the memcal that senses the knock sensor will not work with a 8 cylinder? If so, does anyone know what will interchange? Trucks and vans dont have a memcal like the 7730. What does? Caprice? Roadmaster? Any ideas?
I have the capability of making my own harness, no problem, and plan on a speed density system for simplicity. Not entirely sure of some details, like should I use VSS, I am running a 700R. I dont need vats, I'll delete that. Also, if the OX is to far from the engine (headers) I hear I can use a 4 wire OX with a heater in it to assure it's hot enough.
Sorry to ramble on, lots going on with this setup. Any info is surely appreciated! Thanks for reading. Joe Kandrot

Re: Need memcal interchange
TPI in streetrods used to be good marriage.
Now, TPI SD memcals are really hard to find.
I've done a TPI in 37 Chevy sedan, 40 Chevy coupe, 35 Dodge sedan, 58 Vette and a 67 Firebird convertible.
They really make an old car a smooth runner.
You might want to look at the TPI with OBDII changeover now for ease of parts in the future if you plan on keeping the car. There's an article in the DIY section.
The 41 pickup I'm doing now is Ramjet with OBDII changeover. I plan on driving it as long as I can drive.
