Msd Box the answer?

I have a 1984 camaro z28 with an 82 berlinetta 305 in it. I wanna give this engine a nice tune up and upgrade to get more power to play with (have a budget tho). Heard adding an Msd Box would give it a good boost. From what I seen they are not too cheap. What I'm asking is...is it worth it to get it? Also if I do, do I need new distributor? Or I heard you can by-pass it? Is it going to take a master mechanic to time it? Idk what to do and would appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot.

Re: Msd Box the answer?

so your engine is stock? if it is, then my recommendation would be to let her breathe... put in some headers and an aftermarket exhaust... only then should you consider upgrading your ignition system.. upgrading your ignition and expecting gains is like trying to empty out a bottle all at once by flipping it upside down.. BOTTLENECK!!! you'll have a restriction... my advice is upgrade the "air" part, then move on to spark...
