WINALDL 3000, me 0

Upon opening, winaldl gives "unable to open serial port" window. I'm using a usb only toshiba satellite laptop with a new keyspan 19HS serial-USB to convert the aldl to serial data. I've tried a lot of settings and startup/hookup combinations but winaldl doesn't even get past the "unable..." window.

QUESTION: Aside from using a serial port laptop; has anyone gotten the toshiba/keyspan combo to work, I'm at my wits end.

THANKS

Welcome to TGO

In the murky world of USB to RS232 adapters you'll have to experiment with USB driver settings. You should have an installation disk that was supplied with 19HS. In the readme first instructions there should be a paragraph how to map Serial COM ports. The configuration software should ensure that the same COM port is assigned to the same device, no matter which USB port on your computer you plug it into each time. As always RFM first.

RF: is there also a baud setting that needs to be addressed?

winALDL is 160 baud. does lappy need to be referneced to that on com port?

Usually RS232 should be set to 4800 baud 8 bit no parity with C3 ECM's (8746 for example) You'll see WinALDL capturing data that makes sense. But this is later after WindALDL can see mapped RS232 port through USB.

Re: WINALDL 3000, me 0

Thanks RFM. Yes, I almost used the keyspan assistant window to switch the geographic to Dynamic setting &/or delete all of the com port mappings but the "are you sure? yes/no" window scared me away. I'll look into it some more.

Good Q Ronny. In windows device manager/port settings, 160 b/s is not in the drop down window for selecting port speed just (...150, 300,...). I guess I'll try the 150 setting but what about flow control? Hardware, Xon/Xoff, none?

Yes, that's what it was set at (4800, 8, none, 1, hardware).

Re: WINALDL 3000, me 0

When an "open" comm is selected in winaldl, exited, then reopened, there's no "your connected" window. winaldl just opens and I can start selecting.

Question: So when the ecu/cable/cmptr/winaldl are connected will winaldl give me a window to tell me it sees the ecu or does data just start showing up?

Thanks

If all goes well follow the sequence on this page (RAW data is the key)
