can't datalog with hypertech chip?

Ok guys, i have a question. Is it possible that hypertech chip is blocking me from connecting to my ecm? I have been trying to communicate with my ecm via my laptop for some time now. I built the diy 2 transister cable over 4 times now.Could not connect,so I just had a friend who is an electrical engineer build me the max 232 aldl cable also. Now this cable passes the moates echo test with flying colors. Ok, still cannot connect to the car. Have tried EFI Live, TTs datamaster, frescan, winaldl, Tunerpro rt,all of them out there with no luck. I am an IT Tech and i know it is not my pc or port settings. I have been trying for months now. When i connect cable and fire up datamaster and then turn on the car ,i do get a few strange symbols appear in hyperterminal, but datamaster stills says "your cable is working correctly, but no pcm detected". Yes, i played with the aldl link timing and tried disabling hand shake too. Car is a 91 350 tpi with the 7730 ecm. So, at this point i am starting to think it may be because i am using a hypertech chip? Anyone out there experienced this ? Need help. Thanks

i wonder if it's one of those early blank PROMs that some of the vendors were selling as "performance" chips back in the day...

don't suppose either of you have access to a PROM burner? it could verify that situation, or see if there is any insanity in the tune, indicating a failed PROM.

Re: can't datalog with hypertech chip?

the only insanity i see in the tune is that my base timing needs to be set to 1 degree retarted instead of 6 degrees! otherwise it will ping. Yes i did set it correctly with est disconnected. Car runs great when cold and during normal part throttle driving, but runs like **** after a WOT run until it gets to cool down. ??? That is the main reason i want to get into tuning this car.
