ALDL Cable / scanner for my 1986 TPI?
Hello,
I want to be able to take some readings from my ECM. Recently installed an HSR, etc. I want to do some tuning based on real-timing sensor readings, etc. Knock counts, etc.
Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a fortune, of course. How about an ALDL cable and a laptop with some of the free software that is out there?
Do share your recommendations/experience. THANKS!

Become very familiar with this... http://winaldl.joby.se/
I followed their directions for building an ALDL cable and I did it correctly on only my second try...after accidentally destroying the transistor the first time. All parts required were available at the local "shack of electronic stuff" and for less than $15 I had an ALDL cable.
The hardest part was finding an old laptop that still worked and had a RS232 port. ebay to the rescue...
Now I have a data logger that has already helped bring my car back to life, thank you WINALDL.

Just to cover bases, the ALDL is only for reading... you'll need something else to tune / make changes in the ecm...
In a couple weeks, I'll be purchasing an EBL P4 Flash from www.dynamicefi.com
