Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 9 bolt BW 3.45

Since we are all car guys maybe someone can help.
Im helping a friend with a computer problem he is having with his 1997 Ford Ranger 3.0L 2x4 MT code F77F TB.
He got the sniper tuning package and it doesnt recognize his computer because his vin isnt flashed onto it and theres nothing to be done with this unless we tried another computer.
I just tried a 99 ranger code XL5F computer that didnt fire, is there a computer year range I can use on his truck that would work and if so what would be the latest?
Is there anything I need to know with these computer codes, seems to be so many options, do I need the exact one to work on his truck?

I realize that you have a 3rd gen GTA and are just helping someone out. But your question would be much better served on a Ford board.
