What to do about Computer due to aftermarket cam?

I bought an 87 GTA Trans Am from a guy and he put this cam in the car

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...x?csid=73&sb=2

The timing is off on the car and I don't think it will let me adjust the timing due to the computer thinking there is a stock cam in the car. Does this sound right? What do I do about the computer?

I'm new to this kind of stuff, not extremely knowledgeable about it. Any help is appreciated

If you have no mechanical skills to set timing then I would suggest maybe haveing someone tune the car. Tuning chips is in the stickys on top of this forum, the Prom forum and TBI forum.

There is a wire, usually brown with white stripe that has a disconnect in it. You disconnect this wire and set timing on distributor like when cars had carburators. But with that cam I doubt stock idle timing is going to be usful. That cam is going to require major tuning the paremeters in the ECM.

I think I would leave the timing stock for now. Rather I would work on the fueling. Fueling table needs to be addressed as the VE curve of engine has been changed. Invest in a ALDL cable, download datalogging software of your choice, and run some datalogs. Then make changes in fueling as needed. See stickies as suggested.
