92 idle issues

Hi,

My 92 5.7 tpi is having an inconsistant idle issue. It's really pretty minor, but I'm pretty ****, so I want to fix it.

After the car warms up, at stops, the idle sometimes stumbles, and rarely, this causes a stall. I get the feeling, mostly because I smell fuel, that it might be running rich during these situations.

No codes, and it doesn't always occur...sometimes it idles just fine. Also, my car was recently rewired. While I now have the benefit of the ECM working, I'm wondering if something was done incorrectly. Now when I shut the car off, and remove the key, the head lights don't work. The cig lighter doesn't keep power. The dash lights don't come on. Anyhow, I'm thinking that some of the functions that should have continuous power are being interrupted in the ignition circuit somehow. Possible that the ECM is also losing power when the ignition is off and clearing, requiring a relearn each time I drive? Anyone with ideas? Electrical issues are not my forte.

Thanks,

Ken

Re: 92 idle issues

Not sure about the electrical issues. Did someone put some main power feeds on an ignition controlled relay?

As for the idle, does it also stumble from time to time during steady state cruise. If the stock Multec injectors are still in the engine they are most likely bad.

Nope...brand new bosch II injectors...and it runs under load perfectly. Just the idle and only sometimes. Ken

I wonder if the ignition module or pickup coil is marginal. How is the ignition system: plugs, wires, cap & rotor.

I also notice that after a prolonged idle, like in traffic, etc, it can smell fuel in the air at the front of the car. What about the IAC valve or TPS?
