Does the ECM monitor the temperature sensor?
Hey guys, my oem temp gauge is broken for the 4th time. I bought a new autometer gauge and I'm mounting it into my pillar pod. I wanted to run the sending unit right into the head like stock. If I remove the stock stuff, will this mess something up? I didn't think the ecm monitored the sending unit but ran across a thread last night saying that it might. If thats the case who knows why my car is acting up because I think my header fried the entire oem sending unit anyway. Car seems to run decent but it overheats.

Re: Does the ECM monitor the temperature sensor?
The ECM doesn't have anything to do with the dash temperature gauge. The ECM uses the coolant temperature sensor in the front of the intake manifold. Has two wires to it (yel&blk).
The dash gauge uses the sender that is in the drivers side (left) cylinder head.

the 1 wire temp sensor? it's only for the guages, the ECM has a seperate 2-wire sensor.
