well ive got this chip and a few question to go with it so i called the hypertech tech line. the guy told me it was for a 87 tpi auto with 323 or 327 gears so i explained to him that i had switched it to a 5 speed and added 373 gears. then i asked him if it would still work and he said maybe and maybe not. i guess what i'm asking is what do you guys think? i know the chip is set for the auto and it controls the air fuel,idle,and timing but if i go through all the steps to reset the base idle will it be ok? also will it matter bout the gear change?

 

It will work no problem, there is a checksum in the $32b that will will allow you to turn off tcc lockup. The ecm will just send power at 42mph or so to try to lockup the converter clutch since it will be disconnected it will not affect anything and work fine.

 

Aren't these those rip off chips that really don't do anything at all?

 

well i put the 160 thermostat in and the chip and it must work cause it did advance the timing enough for a good valve chatter, so i hooked up the timing light only to find the balancer had spun on me so now im gonna buy a good balancer. the fan also kicks on alot earlier to so it must be working proper i guess. this chip was in the car when i got it so its not like i'm out a bunch of money to tinker with it! i also got a extra chip and computer out of a 86 iroc so i can kinda compare.
