hey guys, has anyone successfully swapped ecm8063 from a caprice to a 88 camaro firebird using this same computer?? if so, what else did you swap to get it to run perfectly???

does anyone know any other computers that can successfully run this year vehicle??

 

A Caprice '8063 ECM will work. The calibration won't be correct unless you swap your PROM into it. Can also use a '89 f-body 8746 ECM. Just watch the year as VATs came about in '90.

thanks RBob, just so happens that i stashed that computer of an 89 camaro convertible i found at the junk yard.. just in case, how can i visualy identify if the vehicle came with VATS?? and did the caprices sharing my computer, come with VATS? (8063)

 

I don't believe that the '88 Caprice had VATs. Although it may have been an available option. The '8063 ECM does have support for it.

If you plug in the ECM and the injectors don't fire, likely VATs is the issue.

I was just double checking when VATs came about. Apparently it is in '89, the ANTR 305 TBI, 5-speed BIN has it enabled. So that '89 '8746 ECM isn't going to work.
