89 RS 2.8 No Fuel but starts with starting fluid. Please Help
Ok. Just bought 89 RS camaro with 2.8. The guy said he thinks the fuel pump went out but replaced it 2 times and still not working. I spray starting fluid in the intake and it cranks right up.
Checked fuel pump and getting 42psi. So thats good
Injectors had been replaced along with a hole bunch of other stuff. Spark plugs and wires.
I checked the VATS system and its working properly. The security light is coming on when you go to start it and it turns over. I unhooked the orange wire ( VATS WIRE) and it stops so i know that is not the problem.
Changed the gas out of the tank. And checked all fuses under the dash. Im lost now.
Please help. any idea or what to test for. he car only has 89k original miles with a rebuilt motor and tranny. I just need to figure out why its not getting fuel in the injectors.

If that 42 psi is at the fuel rail then it is that the injectors aren't firing. Check the wiring as with the engine being R&R'd a connector may not have been re-connected.
Double check the INJ fuse again (there may be two of them).
If they are still the OEM injectors they could be bad. Check the resistance of each injector. Any that are under 12 ohms is bad. Have enough of them below 12 ohms and none of them will fire.

Also this might sound weird but check the vacuum line going from the fuel pressure regulator to the throttle body. When I got my car I had similar issues like you minus vats and it wasn't starting becUse the fpr vacuum line was melted

Ok. I got sa fuel PSI tester and not getting any fuel from the pump. I ran a jumper wire to the pump and it turns on but is less than 20 psi. So for some reason my wires are not turning on the pump and the pump is not pushing enough PSI. I will order a pump assembly soon.
Does anyone know why mire wires are not working. Maybe the relay or something?

one other possibility, someone connected the fuel pump prime connector wire to a 12v source and forgot it. This connector by the relays is for testing only and needs to be left open.

Ok im getting 42 psi but still not starting. And the fuel pump stays running until you pull the fuse. Any way to test the fuel pressure switch? And any ideas of why the car wont start?
