TPI Conversion Wiring
So this question pertains to a stock third gen TPI harness/fuel injection setup from a 1990 Formula (7730 ecm) into a 1969 Camaro. I have basic knowledge of wiring in general but I am starting to realize I don't understand exactly what's involved in getting this all rolling. It's set up like a drag car; no A/C, powersteering, cruise control, etc.
I am looking at pin outs for the first time in my life and wondering one thing. Basically the only wiring that isn't plugging sensors in is the ignition, power/ground, fuel pump/relay, service engine light? I might even try to bypass the VATS before tuning it using resistors if I can get the PO to give me a reading off the chip in the key (for testing purposes before I spend any more money on tuning it).
I expected things to be way more complicated and have always feared converting anything to fuel injection. Am I overlooking something?!

Re: TPI Conversion Wiring
This subject should maybe be moved to tpi or electrical section. It might be more cost effective for you to buy a new harness off ebay for $260. Entering the body there is enough room to drill a hole in the bulk head around a inch left of the distributor. Use a grommet to protect the wires from chafing. The ecm can be mounted in the glove box since there is not much room under the dash on a first gen. You can strip down the harness remove the air and pump egr and even do it a stand alone and leave the fan and charging system out of the loom. For power you need one for the fuel pump and each injector bank a ato fuse block works great for this. you also need a ignition switched power to the ecm. For a mil lamp the ecm controls the ground side so you are correct you need power for this as well. For the vats just reprogram it out of the eprom or modulate 30hz to the ecm.

Re: TPI Conversion Wiring
Here's a link to a TPI Swappers Guide that I wrote many moons ago. It was targeted at 2nd gens, but they're so similar to 1st gens that's probably very applicable.

For pinouts and schematics, check out http://chevythunder.com/
BTW, I'd also highly recommend getting a Painless TPI harness (which is what I did). All of these TPI harnesses are over 20 years old. You don't want wiring gremlins during a TPI swap, BELIEVE ME. It'll drive you stark raving mad.
