L03 to L31 w/improved cpfi?
Hello Afficianados & third gen experts,
For a mild-build '96-'00 5.7 Vortec swap into an '88 IROC T5, has anyone kept & used the factory fuel injection?
I know you'd have to swap fuel pumps for more pressure, use the Vortec ECM & wiring with a Howell kit.
If just 300 hp (a 100% improvement over the 305) was all that was needed, slight cam swap, headers mild tune from somewhere would this be a doable lower cost alternative to a $2700 EZ EFI kit?
Thanks

Sorry, forgot to mention the "improved" part. New true multiport conversion from the problematic poppet valve original cpfi.
Delphi mpfi conversion ***'y.
Re: L03 to L31 w/improved cpfi?
Find an aftermarket port EFI manifold and go to town with the L31 long block. I cant in good conscience recommend the CPFI system
1) The spider injector sucks, even the aftermarket spider listed will eventually fail and theres a good chunk of change in an injector assembly vs a simple inj upgrade like practically any other port EFI system
2) The electrical side is pretty involved. The harness from both the truck and your camaro need to be broken down and mated together much like a LT1/LS1 conversion, then the vortec system uses a unique PCM, that while better than the old TPI ECM is still dated compared to modern PCMs like the LS1
3) The stock intake flows like crap
