piggybacking ecm/pcm
piggybacking ecm/pcm
About a year ago I took on a project for a friend that involved swapping a 1986 camaro 350 tpi into a 1993 gmc k1500. We know all about the performance aspects and dont care, he wants it in the truck for the look. I researched a little and found out I could use the trucks existing 16168625 computer with a couple wiring modifications and some soldering in the computer did all that and was able to get the truck to run. Cant get the truck to run the way it should. Idles fine and revs great, as soon as I put it in gear it runs horrible, wont rev, pops, shakes and almost dies. Engine was previously in a 1990 k1500 and ran great, it had a tpi wire harness and the 1227165 computer, I just bought a Tpi wire harness and I have the original 7165 computer, I want to piggyback the 8625and 7165 together so the 4l60 will work correctly, not to be rude, but not looking for any answers about how it would be better to use such and such computer with some programming, i know people have piggybacked with success and that is the route i want to follow, just need info or diagrams on what wires need to be spliced and where best place is to splice them, thank you in advanced

Re: piggybacking ecm/pcm
I don't have a re-pin guide for the '7165 ECM, but do have plenty of folks that have done this with the EBL Flash ECM. Move all engine control terminals/wires to the '7165 connectors. This includes the CTS.
Then share the following between the '7165 ECM and the '8625 PCM:
system grounds
sensor grounds
+12 V IGN
+12 V battery
distributor reference lines (pins A4 & A5)
TPS
Vehicle speed (pin F13)
Will need to add a knock filter if an ESC system is desired.

Re: piggybacking ecm/pcm
just pulled the whole tbi harness out of the truck, went to install the tpi harness and it doesnt fit on the body connector at the fuse block. does anyone happen to have a wire diagram as to what wires are going into the backside of this connector? big purple is obvious{to starter}, gonna try to graph the TPI harness to the TBI connector as it will allow me to keep anti lock brake connections. thanks
