Having Fuel Pump Issues

I have a 1990 Camaro iroc-z28 5.7lt and I started having in issue with my fuel pressure. When I would step on the gas my RPMs would increase but then they would decrease to about 2500 RPMs. I replaced my fuel pump with a new one, but the problem is still occurring. Somebody mentioned maybe my fuel filter is so clogged the engine isn't getting fuel, but I didn't really think something that small would be an issue. I'm planning on changing the fuel filter anyways but I would like to know if that really is my problem.

Re: Having Fuel Pump Issues

If the original injectors are still in the engine, replace them.

If the injectors have been replaced with non-OEM, then a fuel pressure gauge taped to the windshield is helpful.

Re: Having Fuel Pump Issues

Take a picture and post it. You can also measure the resistance of the injectors. Any under 12 ohms is definitely bad, under 16 ohms is on the way.

{edit: just wanted to note that the above resistance values are for 8-cylinder Multecs. Other injectors will differ in value.}

Re: Having Fuel Pump Issues

I am planning on checking on both but due to serious financial issues I cant for a couple weeks. Will these problems seriously harm my car? I only drive to and from work/school.
