Upgrading '81 ECM
Upgrading '81 ECM
So I'm in the process of upgrading the ECM of my 81 to a later 1228079 unit so I can run a ZZ4 prom. The car is carb'd (E4ME) vortec 350 sbc, with no AIR pump, EGR. Of course like all projects I start, I think it will be simple then I quickly discovered it's not quite a straight forward swap.
I'm wondering if anyone with experience with this upgrade can lend some advice.
Namely, I've discovered that the C/E light circuit was changed around from 81 to 82-87 and they incorporated a "lamp driver module" and with my current set up the C/E light will be on all the time. So I need to wire in this module, but don't know how. Does anyone have some pictures or diagrams?
From this forum I've track it down to this part (AcDelco 516-51), but I have no idea how it's wired in there. I also need to find a source for the green housing/mount that I was originally installed in (I'm very picky and like things to look factory, even when you can see them).
Any other problems I will run into along the way that y'all know about?
Here is the lamp driver module which I think is correct. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000C9ISUS?pc_redir=1413527518&robot_redir=1

Re: Upgrading '81 ECM
Hey,
I just tore apart my 83 which had this lamp driver module, and i believe i threw it all out (casing, connector, wires and all) because i highly doubted anyone would ever need that from me.
I wish i could remember exactly which wires went where, but it was simply
Pin C of C207 lead to the module, (white with green stripe) and this connected the module to the ECM
then there was a pink/blk for power, a ground, and i believe a yellow wire going to the gauge cluster?
Anyways, the little green housing it was in was simply taped to the harness (with factory harness tape) I highly doubt mine was ever touched, Im pretty sure that was the factory mounting.
Sorry for being little help. Hopefully something here was good...
I had a real hard time finding what this box was when i redid my harness. Good luck.

Tehsocks thanks for the wiring info. Major bummer you threw all that stuff out. Hopefully someone else will chime in that has that stuff lying around. Either way many thanks for the wiring info. Does seem fairly simple.
One question though, what is C207?
