Can I remove the ECM?

My ECM in my 83 Camaro was taken out. Does the ECM just control the drive train? Or does it control the drive trian, the lights, the ignition? What does the ECM control? And if i go to carbureted will i need the ECM?

I understand the ignition will be a issue but what gauges wont work if i remove the ecm?

Re: Can I remove the ECM?

In an '83, the ECM most likely controlled the spark advance and idle/cruise fueling, along with the TCC. It may also control the AIR system and the CCP system.

I doubt that it controlled any dash functions. Just unplug it from the harness connectors and see what happens. Keep the ECM in the car with you until you decide what to do.
