EGR solenoid not grounding, thus EGR will not open 86 5.0 Carb
1986 Sport 5.0L Carbureted..Ive tested the EGR Solenoid, it works. EGR valve is new. Vacuum lines are new and no leaks occuring from other sensors. O2 sensor new. TPS operating at normal voltage. The engine runs pretty good. Easy start, and idles fine. Has a small rumble/miss..
From what I understand, the EGR solenoid will be grounded out when a few parameters are met: operating temp, Throttle position, O2 requirements..etc..
What would cause the solenoid to never ground out, thus keeping the EGR valve closed.?. Could it be a poor CTS?.Ive searched the forum for hours, my eyes are bleeding.!!
I had a code 32 about two weeks ago and am trying to get the vehicle smogged. Havent seen it since, but I am also not driving it anywhere substantial due to a 'smog only moving permit'. I did a pre test and mechanic said the vacuum needed to be taken care of...
...So this leads me to believe that the ECM is not getting the necessary information to engage the EGR solenoid into PWM. What other sensors or factors are having an effect on my EGR system..

Ok.. I replaced CTS for 13$..bit the big ol bullet..
Did some more research and found out I do not have a Barometric Pressure sensor under my hood. Im thinking the last owner when he dropped new engine never put back in. I found five at Pick your Part and put one in today. Seems to calm the rumble and tiny miss. Just not sure if its actually working and if it is affecting the EGR solenoid.
From what I understand, the BPS along with TPS, O2, CTS, MAT(MAP or whatver is on the driver side) all send the information to the ECM and make adjustments. Seems to me that not having a BPS, would not allow for appropriate oxygen mix to be supplied; and because of this, the MAP takes the load, or so I have read..
Im going to drive it for about 25 miles at differing speeds and see if i can get a code to pop up. Im trying to SMOG this ride, and dont want to waste any more money. I may sell the car depending on results or keep it cause I love me the silver bullet.!!. T-Top for life

I'll just keep updating on this immensely entertaining endeavor in hopes someone can help and to assist another thirdgen'r who may be blessed with a similar situation..Drove the bullet back to Newport from Anaheim, and SES light came on. Checked it by grounding Terminal A&B- blinked code 53.
This was after I put in a barometric pressure sensor that the car never had. The whole drive home, it was jamming. No carb secondary pops or hesitation. Soo... That's where we are at. Maybe I'll disconnect the BPS and drive without it after I zero out the codes and see if anything else comes up

Code 53? That would be bad wiring or loose vacuum to the egr solenoid...
