I bought the ecm for the zz4 conversion kit and swiched the chip from my old one to it.I know that that ecm is for an auto but i thought if i put my old chip in i could still use the ecm but it lights up the engine light. Am i wrong is the ecm not compatable with a stick? or what? I tried using the chip that came with it two no luck.

You can't just plug any chip into any computer. Generally the ecms aren't tranny specific, newer PCMs can be.

Gm puts part of the code in the ecm and part in the chip, they also move things around, so that you can't just switch and match.

 

So what can i do that ecm is suppose to be alot better is there a chip i can use that will work with the zz4 ecm ? for a T-5 or what am I just out of luck?

 

I have my old ECM + prom from my 86 Trans Am.
I had a cc carb and T-5.
