Wideband on open headers question.

So the motor is all wired and ready to fire. Just waiting on fab guy to fit me in on exhaust. Might be a few weeks. I want to fire it but wondering on 02 readings with open headers. Wideband is 6 inches from end of collector. I can put a turn down on it to get another 4 or 5 inches. Would 10-12 inches after 02 be enough to get a stable reading? Cant just stick a length of pipe on it because collectors are set up for Vbands.Have a tune already in the dominator to seat the rings.

Shouldn't be a problem. o2 is read all the time with a probe in the exhaust pipe. Roughly the same thing you have.

Re: Wideband on open headers question.

Usually works fine but it might throw off idle readings. We sometimes get lean readings at idle if the wideband is too close to the exhaust exit from too much atmospheric oxygen.

Contrary to what you might think - catalytic converters have almost no effect on wideband sensors - especially at/near WOT. Another tip for you.

Re: Wideband on open headers question.

Would adding a turndown help at all? Fab guy is really tied up with alot of cars and I want to get this started. With a turndown like previously mentioned would extend the pipe to about 12 inches to the 02.

Re: Wideband on open headers question.

the only potential for inaccurate O2 readings would be if you had them hanging out the open, 6 inches keeps reversion air out at anything except idle, and only if you have a radical engine with a really rough idle will it make a huge difference there. The downturn might help in that case. heat should not be an issue with wideband...

Thank you. I'm going to try the turn downs. Cam is only a 242/246 112 lobe. The thing I was worried about was the the motor was never fired. Seeing the fab guy is so booked I'm going to have to go this route . Thank you for all the imput.
