Tuner Pro (and others) keep losing communication with ECM

Hi everyone. I used to post a lot here back in the early 2000s, put my GTA in storage for many years, and just got it out to start playing with it again...

Here's what I've got going on. 88 GTA 5.7 with a T56 swap, replaced fuel pump, filter, and injectors since the gas had been sitting in it for 10+ yrs. I've got it to where it'll start, but the idle is never consistent. I've got the Moates ALDL adapter, and I can get readings on my laptop. But I've noticed that at sometimes I can leave it connected for 10 minutes without any issues, and other times it's only connected for about a minute or two before it loses communication. And it doesn't matter which scan software I use. I know serial communication is funky to begin with, but with all the problems I've got, I'm wondering if I'm having ECM issues.

One other weird things I've noticed, at times (maybe 1 out of 10), as soon as I start the scan tool software, the engine will change how it runs... Almost like the engine starts to idle worse. I wasn't sure if maybe since I've got the profile which runs at 10HZ if maybe that's putting a load on the computer that it's not used to?

So finally to my question... Has anyone else experienced trouble getting their scan tool to stay communicating? It seems like as soon as the connection drops, I have to turn the car off and let it sit for a while before it'll communicate again. Rebooting the laptop and reseating the connections doesn't help.

I've got other issues going on (idle won't stay consistent, if I set minimum idle with the IAC disconnected etc. the Idle will be OK when I plug the IAC back in. but if I disconnect the battery, once it's connected and I start it back up, the idle jumps up to 1500+). And it won't drive well at all. No power after 2000 RPMs, engine cuts out. but I'll post those in another thread.

That’s the nature of the 165 , not sure if it’s different settings in $6e adx but $6e mask seems to hold a better connection.
but definitely not as good as $8d with 730 ecm
. When idle is acting up is it left in 10k mode ?
