Automatic vs Manual 350 Chip??
Automatic vs Manual 350 Chip??
I've got a Jeep that I put an 89 L98 350 TPI motor into, converted to speed density with the painless kit and the 730 computer.
The motor is totally stock but I need a chip without VATS or EGR. Hypertech wants $400 for a custom job.
I've heard that the timing between the auto and manual is different??? Is this true? Something about when in park...I've got a manual in the jeep and wonder if a stock chip would work(since you can only get them for autos), I have a vats defeat module I could use.
Any cheaper places than Hypertech...doesn't seem like much work since it is a stock motor.

Yes, go to the DIY Prom Board and learn to burn your own. The equipment is far cheaper than $400. For that, you could also build a WB O2 Sensor.
Then you could REALLY tune your motor to get max performance while obtaining the best fuel economy.
Most guys with F-bodies start with a 305 5-speed BIN and then modify from there. There are a number of differences in the spark tables (you'll tune those anyway so that's not a biggie) and the IAC (that is). Also, you don't need any of the "TC Tables" which also have some effects when the ECM thinks it's engaging the TC.
Oh yeah, then you can PROPERLY disable the VATS, EGR, AIR, CCP and A/C as needed. Most custom eproms do not seem to know how to do those properly.
