Need help with ECM
I have a 85 T/A that now was a 350 with a 5-speed.
I purchased the car with a Hypertech chip installed. I looked at the Hypertech worksheet that was used to program it and I found
that many things are wrong. It was programmed for a stock TB, injectors, exaust and a auto tranny. I have a 52mm TB, 25 lb injectors, 5-speed and a Flow Master exaust. The motor is not running correctly and I think the chip is causing the trouble.
What do I do?
Should I get a stock 350, 5-speed chip. Where? Have the Hypertech reprogrammed? Please dont tell me to burn my own chips, I cant handle that now. Who can burn a chip for me?
Thanks for the help.

For the price of cusiitm chip you could have the equipment. Guess if you don't have the time, you're just going to have to hope you don't damage the motor.

You are just ASKING to get ripped off. There are a number of vultures that "promise" to burn "good eproms at a reasonable price". Problem is, they are NEVER good.
Even a "custom eprom writer" needs "hands-on" access to the car to do a "reasonable job" on the eprom. The more time the spend, the better the results. But you are looking at BIG BUCKS. Unless you pay someone $1,000+, you will end up with a "formula" chip at best. Sure, it will probably be better than you got, but it will be far from optimal.
I have been playing with my own eprom for almost 2 years and I am ALWAYS finding something new to play with - to better "refine" my eprom to MY CAR. This is called "TUNING". In the old days, if you didn't know how to "tune" an engine (rejet the carb, change rods, recurve the distributor), you were destined to be one of the slower cars. Those guys who learnt how to tune their carb/dissy had the faster cars.
Same thing with eprom burning. The "method" has changed, but the concepts are the same. The guy who controls the AF mixture and spark advance better wins.
But with EFI you have so much more that you can control. You can also invoke Highway Mode to burn less gas when you are "just cruising". Highway Mode has save me enough gas last year to re-pay for all the equipment I purchased to burn eproms.
But whatever you do, if someone offers to "burn you an eprom" for a "reasonable price" DON'T DO IT. The only thing that will get burned is your wallet. Don't become another "statistic".

You may also want to upgrade to a later model ecm and harness as well or even go to 90 or later speed density system. If you want to keep it tpi then you will have to face the inevitable and learn what it takes to make it run right. Or you could swap over to a carb setup and have someone tune it for you much cheeper.

I have another ECM that came with the car. The # is 1226870 and the PROM in it is HLL 2320. Can I just change ECM's without changing the harness? Can you tell me what can be changed by programming my own chip(spark curve, timing ect.)? To program a chip would I need to enter code line by line? How do I find out what the code should be?
I guess I should have picked up that 69 firebird that I really wanted. Life would be much easier. 20+ years ago when I was a kid cars were easy to work on. You open the hood and you had just a motor looking at you.
Well at this point I put enough money into the car that I need to finish the job and make it right.
Thanks
