Craig Moates MAX233 circuit help??
Well first off I will say I am no electrical wizard, but I can follow simple directions and solder good. I have a few MAX233 IC's laying around and I would like to make the interface showed on C.Moates page. I do have a few questions though. They may be stupid and simple but please help me out
1. What is VCC - I am assuming it is the 12 volt power source, or the 9 volt battery
2. I also highlighted an area of the schematic that I don't full understand. I thought the main difference between the MAX232 & MAX233 was just the pump capacitors. Why then does the MAX233 interface have the extra thing hooker to the laptop serial DB-9 at pin 4?? The MAX232 has nothing at pin 4. What does DTR stand for??
If someone could clear this up for me it would really help.
