Newbie totaly lost!! Kinda long, I tried to go into details

Hi there,
I've finally got a friends laptop for a couple of weeks. I'm having a lot of trouble with this PC platform! These are some of the things that Ive done so far:
1. Loaded the software for the PP2, WinBin, WinADLD.
2. After loading the software I removed the stock chip from a old Memcal I had laying around (86 TPI 305, autotrans,ETC..) the factory chip has on it :
AUM8993
Okay, after loading the Info off the chip into the PP2 software. Do I press: Move Device , Verify Device & then save device??? Also on the top of the screen reads:
The Pocket Programmer was found at 0378 Whats that??
I'm trying to get the chip's info into the computer. In trax article he said something about a Icon or picture of the saved data should be seen. What does the Picture look like??
3. Finally, WINBIN!
When I start the WinBin file here's what comes up on my screen:
WinBin version 0.14
Select BIn File, Select ECU file
Whats a ECU file??
When I select Look in WinBin folder these ECu files show on my screen:
1. 86Gn.ECU
2. 89v3.ECU
3. 148.ECU
4. 747.ECU
5.7730v3.ECU
I cant fine my year or prom ID in this ECU fILe. I'm missing something?? right???
Earlier I downloaded a file called:6Ev009.ECu Is this the correct file for my car??
Okay back to trying to load winbin.
I selected ECU file:
89v3.ECU
FLAGS:
Vats & Tranny Type Flags
A/C Press Switch SPec BYte
Thats all for flags!
My Options under Flags are:
b7
b6
b5
VATS
b3
b2
b1
Man-trans
So where is the EGR stuff, Fan on & off temps ETC...
Im so lost please help

From: 600 yds out
Car: Bee-Bowdy
Engine: blowd tree-fity
Transmission: sebin hunnerd
Axle/Gears: fo-tins
Lets see...things I'm sure of

To save the info on the chip press move device, verify device, save buffer.

The Pocket Programmer was found at 0378...I think that's just the computer stating some data about where the PP address is on the parallel port (?)...something like that. Don't worry about it.

You need 2 things to make WinBin work. And ECU file and a BIN file. The ECU file has to match the ECM in your car...and the BIN file has to match the ECU file. In short find out what ECM you have in your car (hopefully someone will jump in cause I dunno) and then find an ECU that says it's for your ECM. Then get the data off your old chip and have a look.

All the EGR stuff should be under the "Values" tab or the "Arrays" tab.

hope this helps...

Does anyone think Tuner Cat's a better program than WINBIN? When I checked the sites for info on my computer ID # 1227165 are the files on these boards what I need to continue? Here's a example of one of the files:
6Ev009.ecu
Does this file belong to my 86 Tpi 1227165 computer?

TunerCat is easier to use, but it costs $70 + $20 for the definition file and doesn't have as many variables defined as the latest WinBin .ecu for the $6E. You'll need the $32 or $32B for your '86. You can get the proper .ecu file from here:

http://www.area51.org.il/~zaphodb/gmecm/

if you require the $32B code.
