First Burn, First Problem
First Burn, First Problem
I burned my first chip last night. I used a AT29256 chip. When I programmed the new BIN I verified that the chip was blank and started the device at 04000. The BIN I used was nearly identical to my stock BIN except I changed the fuel constant to 25 and I lowered the fan on/off temp. When I put the new chip in it started up with a really rough idle. When I drove around the block the SES light came on and the car was running very sluggish(and rich-gas smell was prominent).
I tried to check the code by jumping the A and B terminals but the SES light just stayed lit. I put the stock chip back in and it gave me a code 51. The interesting part is, I tried to start the car again with the stock chip and the car lost all power as soon as I turned the key. Nothing would come on. I took the cal pack out to inspect it and then the car powerd back up. So I put it all back in with the stock chip and started it. The idle was real rough(bouncing b/w 100 and 600) and every time I tapped the gas the lights would dim the car would almost die.
I'm assuming that the new chip is not burned right, but what could I have done wrong? And why did the car just lose all power when I tried starting it again with the stock chip?
And when I did start it again with the stock chip it ran real funny. Should I have unplugged the battery to clear everything before I started it?

thanks for the reply, but I figured it out. The first chip I burned didn't burn correctly, and I screwed up the stock chip myself. I reburned a new chip, and now my car is running better than it has in a long time.
