Reprogramming my car by cellular phone??
Humm, I think if this could works:
- I put a FLASH PROM into my 1227730 ECM
- I replace my one way ALDL cable for other special "two way" cable.
- Then, I connect this cable to my laptop.
- I put one these newer PMCIA cards with antenna in the laptop.
- My brother drive my car...
- The ECM signal travels by a cellular phone line to other laptop/PC in my home.
- I review/make changes to the PROM parameters.
- The car performance is modified "on the run".
This crazy idea could works?????.
What do you thinks?

Signal latency is not an issue. The hardware just needs to receive a complete packet before programming. The only problem here is the ALDL interface. Unfortunely, it is too unreliable. Been there done that. Anyone running the 8192 knows about the mysterious lock-ups. Also, modifications to the ECM are necessary in order to program via the ALDL link. I went through all of this over a year ago. Lots of time and money wasted. Yeah, it worked sometimes, but was too unreliable. You are better off taking the back door approch. That is what the 'romulator' does. I checked out the design on that and still not impressed. They are getting closer, but still not there yet. Maybe in the next rev. they will have it figured out. I am not knocking it. They are moving in the right direction.
