Remotely locating the EPROM?

I don't know if this was brought up before, but I've been contemplating, remotely locating the EPROM for a more easily access point to swap out the chip. Since my soldering in of the ZIF socket on the memcal deal failed miserably, I trimmed off the resistor pack side and now thinking of running a 28 pin ribbon cable and stick it somewhere that can be easily accessed (center console?)

Would the ECM be too sensative to this type of signal latency due to the cable?

It is possible. Be careful and do some IBIS or HSPICE models to find what the max. cable length can be.

Not sure on max lenght of ribbon cable, but I recall a post a while ago where it was tried, and anything over a couple feet of cable caused problems.
