88 TBI computer to 1228746

On an 88 car with TBI computer, is there any wiring changes to plug in the 89-92 1228746 TBI computer? Or will it just plug in and go? Provided that you have a chip with the VATS disabled.

Also on another topic, does anyone know what the chip code is on a 1227747 for a 4.3L 5spd?

I have it at the shop, I'll get it for you when I go there. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for the chip info,

I have a problem. The friend of mine plugged the 8746 ecu in place of his 8063 and this is the info I got from him.

when i started the car up it would idle really high for maybe 20 secs or
so while making a loud sucking noise, then it would stop making the sucking
noise and stall, then if i try to restart it, it will not restart at all.
Sometimes when i turn it over the injectors will not even spray. I tried
using the stock 8764 chip in it and it wouldnt work either, that one wont
even make it run. I put the old 1228063 comp back in it, with its broken
chip and it runs, but it runs like ****, its very eratic, almost sounds like
its loping, like it has a big cam or something, and it smokes black. I
thought the 1228764 comp would have been a direct plug in and it would run
the same as it did before, but for some reason beyond my knowledge its not,
and then the custom chip makes it run a lil better, but it will still stall
after like 20 or so seconds, and there is no way to keep it running, or to
restart it, unless you unplug the comp and then plug it back in, then it does
the exact thing all over again.

The sucking noise I would think is normal. Probably just had air cleaner off. The 20 sec run and quit is the problem I think I need help with addressing. Sound like it may be just running off of the initial fuel pump prime and then dies. Any thoughts or suggestions.

There is an ignition feedback that tells the ECM when the engine is running, so that if the engine isn't running but he key is on there is a delay that will shut off the fuel pump, bu tI thought the timer was more aound 2 sec's. Find out if the fuel pump relay control wire is going dead after 20s. If it is you'll have to find the ignition signal problem. If worse came to worse you could just wire the pump off a hot ignition wire for the time being to keep it running.

The eprom # for 88 5speed is AKSN

Where is the fuel pump relay on a TBI 3rdgen? Is it beside the fan relay?

Brian

Thanks for the chip code.

I do believe so, this site has the wiring diagrams that will tell u which wire is hot from the ecm to start the relay.
