Questions about using the Pocket Programmer

This will be the first time I will be using my new Pocket Programmer II. I have two questions. Please keep in mind that I do not know a lot about this stuff. Could someone please explain the basic procedures in reading a chip, saving it as a binary, and also loading a binary and actually programming it?? Also, can you screw up a non-flash prom (regular stock prom) if you plug it in and accidently hit program without having it been erased? Thanks in advance.

The instructions come with the PP2 SW in a text file under a folder named EPROM.

To read a chip, insert it in the PP2 and hit "move device".

To save it as a bin, hit "save buffer" and save it to the location you want on your PC.

To burn a prom, select the file you want to use by hitting "load buffer" and choosing the bin you want and then hit "program device". Make sure you have the right device type selected and have "auto verify" on to make it complete.

No, it won't program a PROM that is not empty. Or so I think. It may depend on the type of PROM you have selected.

Depends on ECM. 165 uses a 27c128 and 730 uses 27c256. Also depends on manufacturer of chip as some use different programming voltages. The 29c256 is only under one listing so nothing further needed to select.
