Looking for a FAQ for n00bs
Can anyone direct me to a FAQ or a good tutorial to answer
newbie questions.
Specifically; What does a fast flashing SES light mean ?
I need to learn more before I waste money learning by trial and error. (Mostly error in my case)

You can check out some of the Technical Articles here, search the forums for answers, the DIY-ECM site has some FAQ. Mostly just do the searches and learn as you go.

The only time I got a fast flashing SES light in my car (88 Trans Am GTA) was when I left the ALDL jumper pin in the connector by mistake and started the car - but if this was your problem, I bet you found it already...

My SES light flashed really fast and dim when I put the wrong memcal in my ecm. It also gave me a code 51 when I checked for errors. Hope this helps.
