Should the knock sensor be replaced?

The car in question is a 86 trans am that came with a TPI 305. Now the car has a 383 in it should the knock sensor be replaced or is it okay to use it. Ive heard that some 350 have a different part # for the knock sensors used in them.

Replace it with one for a 350.

Does it work right? I have a 305 sensor on my 350 and it works fine. There was a resistor in the box, its something like 100k ohms, I was supposed to install it in the wire I guess, never did. Didnt feel like cutting a wire to put an exposed resistor in it for a universal type part.

The way I understand it the walls in the 305 are thinner so the sensor isn't as sensitive, you need a 350 sensor that is calibrated for the wall thickness in order for it to operate correctly.
