Pocket Programmer II is fried need transistor info

Well, my Pocket Programmer II decided to melt a transistor today for no apparent reason. The unit has less then 8 burns on there and it decided to kill itself today. Plus, the kicker is that there's only a 90 day warranty on this $150 unit and my unit is like 8 months old.

So, can anyone open up their Pocket Programmer II and read me the text on the transistor? All you need to do is remove the 4 plastic legs on the bottom of the unit and then remove the 4 screws. Remove the cover and you will see two transistors (one is a small black half circle with a flat face and the other has a metal tab on it). The one that is burnt is the small half circle one next to the red diode.

My says something like this (transistor is kind of melted):
MPS 406
W 1 U

A friend's unit says this but he's not sure cause the words are kind of fuzzy:
2N
4401
M798

Also, the PCB (circuit board says REV 1A) Anyone can shed some light on this. Please post your PCB Revision and any text you can make out on the transistor. If you have any other info please let me know. Thanks!

lol, I fried my PP1 by hooking up the reversing the polarity on the power (RadioShack DC adaptor). I took it apart and the transistor was off the circuit board and melted into the case! I replaced it but it didn't help, turns out it needed a new diode too. Anyways, I found that out after sending it out to get fixed and upgraded with the PP2 software.
