prom ???

can a stock engine really benefit from prom tuning on SD cars?

what kind of gains have people experienced? will i hurt my mpg?

From what has been said on the board a stock engine can benefit from tuning the PROM.

When tuned correctly you should have better MPG.

Yes, ESPECIALLY SD cars!!!
Depends on the mods list. You can almost always tune your car to run best in the 1/4 mile with just base timing and fuel pressure. The trouble is that in a stock eprom you'll get crappy idle and light throttle performance. This is where eprom burning makes a big difference. Idle quality can be improved 10 fold even on a stock car. Part throttle responce can be improved and smoothed out which leads to improved gas milage. If that wasn't enough, you can change the parameters like fan turn on, shift lights, tcc lockup options, the list goes on and on. The 7730 and 7747/8746 are so far hacked it's childs play. Oh yeah, and once you start you can't stop. It's free, not like carbs and their parts and pieces, this is all computer controlled so no dirty hands and easy to go back to stock if anything is so far out of wack.
