Help with 165 to 727 pin conversion

Hi everybody. I have done a bunch of searches and can't find what I need. I want to find a chart that tells what pins to attach to on the 727 ecm from my 165 ecm harness. I found the chart for the 730 but not for the 727. I'm sure it is somewhere around here. I bought a 727 thinking I may mount it in the engine bay since the Vette has no room under the dash. Thanks in advance.

IIRC the only difference between a 730 and 727 is the weaterpack connectors. The pinout should be the same.

Mikes site has a 165 to 730 conversion table. Of course this is for a F-body, your vette will have some differences. HTH, Bob

The 727 ecm has 4 - 22 pin connectors on the back. It looks like the 730 ecm has 3 plugs on it, a 24 and 2 32 pins.

Saturn5, you are awsum. Thanks a lot for that e-mail with the info. I printed it all out (all 9 pages). I think this will help me a ton with setting up the harness I'm making! Okay, now quit messing around on the computer and get that Malibu going!

I'm a bit confused here?? I just read over the link you provided quickly. Why does it seem like in his discription that you need to put a knock sensor to do the change over to SD. My car is a 89 TPI with the MAF yet it already has a knock sensor??? Should my engine not have a knock sensor being that it is a MAF engine??

You can use your existing knock sensor if you cut splice a couple wires and add a resistor the the knock sensor module wiring. You can ditch the module after the conversion. Read the Davis article a little closer, you'll see.

Cool thanks BIG_MODS. SO I can get rid of all that mess? ESC, and the Burnoff relay. Sweet! Thanks again. Now I just need to get the harness and the ECM, well and a prom too right?

Jeff's spreadsheet

Thanks Jeff. I think I have everything now. Just gotta get goin on it. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get going. About that knock sensor. You do need to use one with the 730 but it is a different part number than the 165 sensor. Or you can use the resistor method to make a 165 ks work. I plan on just putting in the correct 730/727 ks.

Bob-

Don't forget...the ALDL wire will need to be swapped. Going from memory, the original wire at pin E would need to be jumpered or removed and replaced into socket M. This was from when I swapped to the 730. In the case of the 727, it looks like serial data is still on pin M, but stuff for the DERM and the HVAC goes to K and I. Seeing as how you aren't upgrading and doing the dash like Jeff did, you will probably just need to maek sure that pin E gets moved to M. Good luck, -Matt-

Sorry to bring this old thread to the top again but I can't find this info anywhere. I have the 165, 730 and 727 diagrams and think I have most of it figured out. I just want to make sure I have it right and to answer some of the ones I don't have. Can someone provide this?? Thanks

Thank you, Matt. Yes, I know about having to change the ALDL pins. I also have to bypass the esc on the engine side of the fire wall. And do something with the power and burn off relay wiring, I think. I have kindof taken a break from this conversion. The weather is very nice here now and I got the car running on the 165 so I'm just waiting 'till the time is right to swap in the 727.

Mike, I sent you the charts I got from Jeff. Hope that helps.
