i need some help/advice

i just bought a programmer, i should have chips and adapters on the way but i don't really know where to start programming. i need an aldl cable, right? then do i just start making minor changes to some numbers till i figure out what i'm doing? i've got a 91 camaro with a 3.1.....i beleive its got a 730 ecm and a $88 mask, maybe? i've downloaded a few different programs.....which program is the easiest to learn on? how bad can i mess stuff up (motor-wise) if i go too far with a change? i'm want to get into eprom burning but i'm a little unsure of myself right now. sorry for this being kind of long but i appreciate any and all advice. please tell me stuff even if i didn't mention it above. and, yes i did read the 'sticky - intro to prom burning' but still a little leary.

you can really screw the engine up. ive spent some time working with the smaller v6's with maf but not with SD. i can tell you a few things.

limit total timing to no more then 36d period. with PE add maybe 1-2 over that total this is becuase the extra fuel will kewl things off.

these motors like lots of fuel. trust me youll be surpised how much power you can pickup just adding fuel to the PE mode.

go read tunning tips over at www.diy-efi.org in the GMECM area.

then once youve come to grips with tunning tips come back and we would be glad to help as much as we can.

also for the easiet to use software

www.tunercat.com

and for a easy bruner
www.ustr.net the epromer5. good burner no trouble.

good luck if you have more questions feel free to ask. also

Welcom aboard.
