Need help with a custom prom
Need help with a custom prom
K, here's the scope. My car is running like junk and only gets about 60 miles on a full tank. I'm too broke this week to buy a programer, but a friend of a friend has one, but has no clue on custom chips, but says he can copy one without a prob.
SO how do i go about making/editing one to make my car run half @$$ desent for now till I have the money to pick one up next week?? If someone could help me out it would be great.
here are my mods:
91 Camaro RS 305 TBI.
.454/.454 lift and 218/218 duration with 1.5's - non-roller, hyd flat tap
1.6 roller rockers
14101083 350 heads, ported and polished and milled a bit for more compression
Edlebrock preformer intake
BONE stock TBI unit
160 thermo
Headmen headers
3" highflo cat and 3" pipe to muffler, then dual 3" out
American thunder cat back setup
I mainly need to fix the MPG. It is also a DOG in low RPM's, like anything under 3k. The trans shift very early when @ wot, almost like I wasn't on it. As of now, only time I can get WOT is with the trans in 1st or second gear so it doesn;t shift on me.
I just bought the parts to make a winaldl cable and will make it now, should have logs posted by tomorrow.
Thanks
Brian

K, here it is step by step:
1.) read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml
2.) if still confused, read it again.
3.) repeat as necessary.
The 160deg thermostat is likely to be the big contributor to your bad mileage, especially in Winter weather. I'd consider going to a 180deg stat. Even if you adjust the software to compensate for the colder operating temps, most smallblock Chevy engines I've worked on like 180-190deg coolant temps and feel really lazy when run colder. Vizard books say 170deg is the optimum temp.
You also have a lot of cam duration for a 305, but maybe see what you can do with what you have before going into another cam swap.
Your transmission shifting isn't managed by the ECM so no chip params you can adjust, recheck the throttle valve cable tension as described in the tech articles section here.
