scan tool software question

I do believe that I have everything needed to start burning chips but I do not have a scanner. I do have the ALDL cable. Is it possible get some data collecting software to use on my laptop? If yes than is it downloadable off the net or do I purchase it somewhere? I have a $42 ECM. I need a direction, please give me some help. Thanks

Ah yes, the '747. Look/search for WinALDL. It is a laptop based scan and data log tool. I know search is down for the moment maybe someone can post the link (I don't have it).
