PROM - buy or burn

I recently did a trouble code test on my 88 gta because it would stall randomly and came up with a code 51. All the stupid manual tells me is that code 51 if a "PROM error". The PROM chip is not physically damaged. I would like to know if could reburn the PROM or should i just buy a new one

That error code stays in the system for a while. If you pulled it out and put the key in the on position it would have been stored even after you reinstalled the eprom. Does the car run normal or does it run like crap and is the ses light flickering on and off VERY fast? If it's strobing then the chip is either installed improperly or it's bad and needs a reburn.

I've been getting that code occasionally using a custom chip and memory switcher, flickering check engine light and won't really run. For me if I shut the car off and 5 min later, started fine. Another time I re-burned the same chip and solved the problem (didn't try just turning the car off and removing the key).
